Three Moody Koreans Produce Serious Psychedelic Rock

Last night Ugly Tarantino and Kinetic Emcees headlined a night of independent hip hop on the main stage of the Hawthorne Theater while the Portland Psych Rock Fest took the front lounge. I was there for the hip hop, and only accidently stumbled upon the psychedelic rock band Julia Dream.

Julia Dream is three moody Koreans rocking some seriously bone-buzzing, mind-bending psych-rock riffs. Lead singer 박준형 (no idea of the English translation) is this unassuming, sweet-faced kid who you'd never guess capable of the soaring, Jim Morrison-esque vocals of a man's man. The trio is surprising, talented and pensive. According to their Facebook page, Julia Dream is inspired by drugs, booze, love and depression. Aren't we all.

Check out their first single, Lay It Down On Me, here.
